Operative laparoscopy has replaced the conventional approach by laparotomy to the treatment of most benign gynecological diseases (benign adnexal cysts, ectopic pregnancy, tubal infertility, policystic ovarian disease, endometriosis, myomas), with advantages in terms of shorter hospital stay, less discomfort and complications for the patient, minor social costs due to the early resumption of normal working activities, and comparable results in terms of reproductive outcome.
