© 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. The influence of γ radiation on the shear modulus of magnetorheological elastomer was investigated. Experimental results show that both the initial shear modulus and the magnetic-field-induced shear modulus increase first and then decrease with increasing γ radiation dose. Two factors are considered to explain the experimental results. One is the radiation-induced crosslinking and degradation reaction which influences the shear modulus of the polymer matrix of magnetorheological elastomer. The other is change of the saturation magnetization of the carbonyl iron particle which influences the magnetic-field-induced shear modulus.
