Abstract

This article analyzes the interactional positionings (DAVIES & HARRé, 1999) of Filmow social network participants when commenting on aspects of gender and sexuality addressed in Almodovar's All About my mother, highlighting those that refer to transgender characters. We use an analytical tool that focuses on the contextualization of indexical cues (WORTHAM, 2001). By understanding gender through the perspective of performativity (BUTLER, 1990), we use Queer Theories as a theoretical basis. The study indicates the fi lm drives participants to refl ect on nonhegemonic discursive identity performances, even though participants do not always take transgressive positionings. Then we suggest reasons for the diffi culties of mobilizing transgressive discourses.
