Abstract

Existential nihilism corresponds to the belief that existence is meaningless. The objectives of the present research are to know the psychometric properties of the Existential Nihilism Scale in students of Physical Education of Chile and to relate the levels of existential nihilism with the interpersonal, intrapersonal ability and academic stress. The first sample consisted of 285 students of Pedagogy in Physical Education which was used to know the psychometric properties of the Existential Nihilism Scale. A second sample of 244 Physical Education Pedagogy students was used to relate existential nihilism scores and inter and intrapersonal skills and academic stress. The results show low levels of nihilism in the sample, with a negative relationship between nihilism and intra- and interpersonal skills, similarly there is a negative relationship between nihilism and strategies to deal with the stress of the sample. A positive relationship between nihilism and academic stress was also observed.
