Abstract

We compare advantages and drawbacks of the two techniques mainly used for the experimental study of gas phase photoionization processes on ionic targets in combination with synchrotron radiation, the merged beam and ion trap. The comparison will be illustrated by recent results obtained on atomic and small molecular positively charged ions using both techniques at SOLEIL, the French synchrotron radiation facility.
