Abstract

To identify fundamental knowledge about the radiant heat reduction effect of Low-E glass by heat exposure, the temperature data of the glass and radiant heat flux were obtained by fire tests, and checked the fire prevention performance of Low-E coating glass. Findings are as follows. 1. If coating side is heated, Low-E glass is able to reduce much more radiant heat flux compared with no coating glass, and Low-E glass temperature difference also decreases by the radiant heat reduction. Therefore the strength of the Low-E glass can be lowered. 2. Although by being divided into emissivity value, temperature difference in the glass on fire tests and surface compression stress of the glass are closely relevant, the relation can be expressed in the same way as no coating glass by considering heat balance on heat side glass surface. 3. The radiant heat reduction effect varies by the emissivity value. And the radiant heat flux reduces as the emissivity value is low. 4. The radiant heat flux from glass surface could be explained by considering the glass spectral transmission in high temperature and unheated glass surface temperature.
