Abstract

Endodontic treatment is characterized by pain preoperatively and sometimes post operatively as well. Understanding the mechanisms of pain involved in pulpoperiapical pathoses and root canal treatment are imperative to achieve optimal pain control and patient comfort. Preoperative pain control is achieved via local anaesthesia, anaesthetic premedication with analgesics, interappointment analgesics and post-operative analgesics. Dentists must have a clear idea of the medications of choice, their dosage, indications, contraindications and adverse effects. This review serves to address the pharmacological methods of pain control in root canal treatment. © Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
