Abstract

Cholelithiasis in children is not a frequent illness although deals without symptoms in an elevated number of cases; That`s why, sometimes, may not be diagnostic till adulthood. Approximately 40[%] of the cases in childhood is idiopathic. Actually exists increment of its prevalency because of: 1) the use of ultrasonogram as a diagnosis method; 2) a higher survival and monitoring of children with serious pathologies in the earlier years of life which force to fast or parenteral nutrition. 3) the more frequent use of alternative treatments like liver transplantation. A difference with adult is that in children are more common pigmented gallstone. Asymptomatic cholelithiasis, discovered by casual discovery, if we don´t have risk factors, they don´t required treatment, just periodic reviews. In patients with symptoms or risk factors, treatment of election is programmed cholecystectomy, to avoid complications.
