The purpose of the article is to answer if the transfer of imprisoned pregnant women from Florianópolis to other cities in Santa Catarina implies consequences for the realization of the right of visitation and the contact with their families. The methodology used to develop the research consisted in a bibliographical review and empirical research. In its development, the text presents an overview of female criminality in Brazil, presenting the profile of women incarcerated in national prisons, conditions of incarceration, and social and economic conditions that mark the relationship between women and prison; a survey of the rights of incarcerated women; the exposition of the conditions of the female prison in the country and in the unit of Florianópolis; and the presentation of data on the transfers of pregnant women, collected through a questionnaire sent to the Prison Administrative Department of Santa Catarina (DEAP) and answered by the Manager of the Female Prison of Florianópolis. From the information provided by the DEAP, it was possible to verify the mechanisms and motivations for transferring pregnant women from the capital unit to prisons in other municipalities of the state of Santa Catarina. In the end, it was concluded that the transfers create obstacles to the visitation of these women, with the potential to become a source of new violations resulting from the isolation of the transferred women, in addition to being a practice that relegitimizes the prison system.
