Abstract

Numerical values have been computed for the squares of the radial integrals which appear in the expression for the electric dipole moment for hydrogen. Results are tabulated for the allowed transitions from any lower state, n'V, to any upper state, nl, for all values of n' and n < 20. For the transitions which yield the Balmer series, the tables have been extended to n < 60, and individual oscillator strengths are also included. Total oscillator strengths are tabulated for the allowed transitions from all states of given n' to all states of given n for n' and n < 20. In the case of the Balmer series, total line strengths, as well as total oscillator strengths, are tabulated for « < 60. The accuracy of the tabular data is discussed, and the relation of the material presented to other quantities of interest is indicated. Consideration is given to the manner in which the tabulated results for hydrogen can be employed to compute the corresponding information for He n and other ions consisting of a single electron moving in the nuclear field.
