Magnetic resonance images of twenty-five dogs with histopathologically confirmed primary brain tumors were evaluated. A lesion was visible in each dog. Meningiomas were usually extra-axial lesions that enhanced markedly with gadolinium-DTPA. Gliomas were characterized by intra-axial location, significant mass effect and surrounding edema, and variable enhancement patterns. Choroid plexus tumors and pituitary tumors were differentiated by their location and marked enhancement. Prediction of general type of tumor was correct in 24 of 25 dogs.
