Abstract

This paper presents a survey of resistivity and groundwater quality around the solid waste dumpsite of Tirunelveli Municipal Corporation at Ramaiyanpatti in the state of Tamilnadu, India. Water samples were col- lected and analysed for physico-chemical parameters in the study area. Electrical resistivity surveys were car- ried out in the study area. The physico-chemical analysis of groundwater as well as geophysical investigation revealed that there are considerable impacts of solid waste dumpsite leachate in the groundwater aquifer. To minimize the impact of such leachate of a dumpsite on groundwater quality and the environment in gen- eral, it is necessary to properly design, construct, and manage the dumpsite by engineering principles.
