The World Health Organization (2011) estimates that more than a billion people world-wide live with some form of disability, i.e., 15% of the world’s population (WHO, 2011, p. 7). In the United States, over 60 million people have one or more disabilities (www.cdc.gov/disabilities, 2017). The rate of disability increases with increasing age. In the United States, nearly 34% of those over 75 years of age are disabled.
