The practice of bullying: an issue for school and society

Abstract

This article aims to reflect on the phenomenon called bullying those plagues both the school and society in general. According to the Aurélio dictionary, society is a group of beings that live in a gregarious state. Group of individuals who live on their own accord under common norms, community. Group of people who, subject to a regulation, exercise common activities or defend common interests; ex: guild, association, association. The human environment in which the individual is integrated. The word society has its origin in the Latin societas, which is derived from socius, which means companion. Sociology, is the study of the relationships between people who live in a community or in a social group, defines society as a group of people who share purposes, tastes, concerns, and customs and who interact with each other building a community. The school is a social environment where people interact with each other. In society everyone is involved in bonds of relationships. What can be deduced from the complexity of sharing mutual interests or concerns. In this context, society loses focus when it diverges between opinions, desires, and diversity of thoughts, becoming a medium that will generate violence or prejudice or bullying. In view of the heterogeneity of people in a constituted society, one must respect the differences of the other. For respect is the main foundation for harmonizing relationships. When someone practices bullying, in a society, he disrespects not only the chosen victim, but the lives of everyone else. That is why it is said that: the "giant" bullying, is almost present everywhere, and not only at school. Therefore, this article seeks to reflect on the following question: what is the role of school and society in combating bullying? To try to respond and reflect on this issue, we appropriate important theoretical contributions from authors inherent to the topic. For some results in this research, we observed that one of the ways found to combat violence or bullying is that awareness campaigns must be carried out in society and even in schools, in addition, dialogue is fundamental between family members; From an early age, parents need to prepare their children against this type of violence, which is very common within school institutions.
