Abstract

An active, pattern forming catalyst [Pt(110) in the excitable regime], surrounded by an active, nonpattern forming catalyst (Rh or Pd) was studied. CO oxidation on Pt-Ti, Pt-Rh, and Pt-Pd composite catalysts in the 400-480 K temperature range was followed. It was found that adsorbate surface transport through the second (active) component affects the shapes and interactions of concentration patterns observed on pure Pt.
