Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a slowly progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting daily functioning through motor and non-motor symptoms. Aside from effective symptomatic treatment options, no disease-modifying therapies are currently available. Symptoms progress over time and reduce patients’ quality of life. Lifestyle modification can enhance the standard of living, relieve symptoms, and possibly slow the progression of the disease. Diet, exercise, stress reduction, sleep, and cognitive stimulants have benefits on brain health followed by a better quality of life. Although there is some evidence linking lifestyle to PD risk and development, the limited and frequently contradictory data make it challenging to put it in clinical recommendations. As populations age worldwide and neurological disorders become more prevalent, lifestyle interventions need to be studied more and added as part of the comprehensive management of patients with Parkinson's disease.
