Centrosomes: Please keep your social distance!

Abstract

Accurate control of centrosome number is essential for proper chromosome segregation, and it is well established that centrosome abnormalities can trigger a p53-dependent cell cycle arrest. Two new studies published in The EMBO Journal demonstrate how PIDD1 is recruited to centrosomes and that the localization ofPIDD1 to distal appen- dages of centrosomes is required for PIDDo- some activation at clustered supernumerary centrosomes.
