Abstract
Cacao bean is one of the foreign exchange resource commodities from crop plantation sector. This commodity is mainly cultivated by smallholders especially in South Sulawesi. Besides to fulfill the domestic industries, this commodity is also exported abroad particularly to the United State and European Union countries. Improvement of cocoa bean’s quality is required to sustain the farming system and increase the farmer earnings. One of the efforts to be conducted for the time being is by compliance cocoa beans quality for export with the SNI 01-2323- 2002, Cocoa Bean’s requirement. Before the technical rule of cocoa bean export is compulsory, a study to identify farmer ability, readiness of trader and exporter to comply with the SNI is needed. Expectation of this study is that the result can be used as a base line data for regulator, conformity assessment bodies and other related unit in SNI implementation activity, as well as to know the readiness of producer in implementing SNI 01-2323-2002. Result of this study showed that the compliance level of all cocoa beans samples, which were taken from farmers, traders, and exporters with general requirement of SNI 01-2323- 2002 was relatively low. Their constrictor factor was moisture and waste content. Compliance level of cocoa bean samples to specific requirement in SNI 01-2323-2002, with constrictor factor unfermented cacao bean, was also relatively low. According to compliance with general and specific requirement, cacao bean from South Sulawesi is in the lowest quality level.
