This virtual special issue introduces the range of work in Social & Cultural Geography on the broad topics of migration, mobilities and movement. We identify three key themes that have emerged over the past 20 years, and illustrate these themes through 10 representative papers published in the journal. First, we discuss the centrality of place to how social and cultural geographers have written about migration and mobilities. Second, we discuss the practice of mobility, paying particular attention to how social and cultural geographers have highlighted everyday and exceptional mobilities. Third, we illustrate the critical geographies of migration and mobilities that have emerged more recently. We conclude with a reflection on the future of migration and mobilities research in social and cultural geography.
