Abstract

The present study aims to describe the sociodemographic and health profile of nursing professionals in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and propose a reflective analysis on the essentiality of the category facing the intrinsic demands of patients and the Brazilian health sys-tem, especially in the context of the public health emergency triggered by the exponential advance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This study reveals the relationship between historical injustices and the different types of inequality that impacted and caused the vulnerability of the profession, with an emphasis on the presentation of potential per-spectives arising from this historical process and recent events.
