Abstract
Background And Aims: ETNA-AF-Europe is a multinational, multi-centre, post-authorisation observational study conducted in 10 European countries that enrolled patients treated with edoxaban in routine clinical care. This analysis evaluates differences in baseline characteristics and outcomes of patients stratified by presence/absence of a previous stroke. Methods: Patients in ETNA-AF-Europe with (n=1148) or without (n=11,944) a previous stroke/ transient ischaemic attack (TIA) who completed 1-year follow up were included for analysis. Results: Patients with a previous stroke/TIA were older, had reduced renal function and greater CHA2DS2-VASc and HAS-BLED scores (Table). Patients with a previous stroke/TIA had higher rates of total mortality, cardiovascular mortality and strokes but not major bleeding or intracranial haemorrhage (Figure). Conclusions: Absolute recurrent stroke rates were higher in patients with a previous stroke/TIA underlining the importance of providing adequate anticoagulation to these patients in an appropriate and timely manner. Detailed multivariable analyses stratified by prior stroke and edoxaban dose will be presented.
