Abstract

The conditions under which the nonlinear scattering of sound by sound is possible are investigated. The existence of the effect is discussed for relaxing media, in the presence of acoustic streaming, and in the case of inhomogeneous sound beams. All the calculations are carried out in the plane-wave approximation.
