Hill analyzes the difficulties and successes of malaria vaccines. The malaria parasite's complicated life cycle complicated vaccine development due to the fact that a vaccine can typically only target one stage of its life. Each stage either has very few cells, or very protected cells, and either of these aspects makes immune control difficult. The RTS,S vaccine is showing promise, and has begun to be implemented in Africa. By attacking malaria at its first stage of life within humans, developers hope to minimize the symptoms and transmission of malaria.
