We present a new record of the endemic fish Xiphophorus clemenciae Álvarez, 1959 for the Grijalva River Basin, Chiapas, Mexico. This is the first record found off the Coatzacoalcos River Basin in Oaxaca and Veracruz. Due to their widespread distribution and high abundance, it will be necessary to apply the Method of Evaluation of Risk Extinction for Mexican Wild Species (MER) to update its status on the Mexican Law Nom-059-Semarnat-2010.
