Abstract

We studied the effect of azithromycin (AZM) on macrophage responses to pneumococci. We found that exposure of pneumococci to AZM led to reduced tumor necrosis factor (TNF) secretion by macrophages; this effect was observed in response to both AZM-susceptible and AZM-resistant (AZM-R) pneumococci.© The Author 2013.
