Unlike most newly introduced insecticides, tebufenozide has not provided excellent control of the obliquebanded leafroller, Choristoneura rosaceana (Harris), in apple orchards. Susceptibility of C. rosaceana to tebufenozide from 5 commercial orchards with different histories of infestation in the western, central, and Hudson Valley regions of New York was compared with susceptible larvae collected from an unsprayed habitat. All colonies from commercial orchards exhibited resistance in a leaf immersion bioassay. Colonies collected from commercial orchards in each of the 3 growing regions exhibited resistance to azinphos-methyl and chlorpyrifos. Cross-resistance of tebufenozide to other orchard insecticides may be affecting field performance of this new compound.
