La opinión pública y el crimen en la era digital: revisión sistemática sobre las redes sociales como contexto de reacción social al delito

Abstract

Social media opens a new avenue for approaching informal social reaction to crime. However, we must wonder whether criminology is really accounting for this new context. The aim of this study was to review the current state of the literature on informal social reaction to crime in social media, seeking to establish which dimensions of this context are being studied in criminology and what gaps the existing literature presents. To perform the systematic review, articles published up to 2023 and available in Web of Science were compiled, obtaining 628 results, of which only 43 actually addressed the area of interest. Empirical literature is scarce although very promising, which shows the potential that social media still has as a source of information to approach public opinion on crime.  Las redes sociales abren una nueva vía de aproximación a la reacción social informal al delito. Sin embargo, cabe preguntarse si la criminología está dando cuenta realmente de este nuevo contexto. El objetivo de este estudio fue revisar el estado actual de la literatura científica sobre la reacción social informal al delito en redes sociales, buscando establecer qué dimensiones de este contexto están siendo estudiadas y qué lagunas presenta la literatura existente. Para llevar a cabo la revisión sistemática se recopilaron los artículos publicados hasta 2023 disponibles en Web of Science, obteniendo 628 resultados, de los cuales 43 abordaron realmente el área de interés. Fruto de esta revisión ha podido observarse que la literatura empírica es escasa, aunque muy prometedora, lo que manifiesta el potencial que todavía tienen las redes sociales como fuente de información para aproximarse a la opinión pública sobre el crimen.
