Abstract

In the last two decades, the impact of educational research on school improvement processes has received increasing attention in the international context and has become an important concern for teachers, researchers and policy makers. Literature has explored how impact is theorised and researched. The aim of this paper is to drive recommendations and proposals to close the stubborn and long-standing gap between research and practice, based on the review of the literature corresponding to the period 2000-2020 of the studies on the impact of educational research in practice. We have conducted a systematic literature review in the WOS, Scopus and ProQuest databases focusing on the impact of educational research between 2000 and 2020. From 237 articles identified, we selected 145. We drew up a system of categories for the content analysis and identified 50 proposals and recommendations. The results reflect the available knowledge regarding the impact of educational research in practice, the main agents involved, the policies to be developed in different fields and suggested methodological guidelines, as well as the implications for initial and ongoing teacher training.
