Abstract

This chapter introduces the main routing protocols for ad hoc networks: on the one hand, the protocols that do not introduce security measures, and on the other hand those that introduce security measures. It shows a performance comparison test of the most well-known routing protocols in order to know which performs better with respect to some parameters. The routing protocols used should perform the main objective of using routes among the different nodes that conform to the network correctly and efficiently. The chapter analyzes the currently proposed routing protocols for ad hoc networks, taking into account both characteristics of ad hoc networks and the required security in the communication. It introduces security measures in ad hoc networks to guarantee good routing protocols performance.
