Rereading Harry Braverman's Labor and Monopoly Capital After Twenty years

Abstract

The authors revisit one of the classics of Marxist literature, Harry Braverman's Labor and Monopoly Capital: The Degradation of Work in the 20th Century. They find that Braverman's theory & observations explain many recent changes in the workplace & apply to their own personal experiences as workers. They conclude that understanding what has happened to workers in the past 20 years requires a knowledge of how craftsmanship has been destroyed by capitalism & how workers have been degraded over the past 100 years. 10 References.
