Abstract

This study tests the generality of illusion decrement using four illusion figures involving intersecting lines: the Zoellner, Poggendorff, Wundt-Hering, and Mueller-Lyer figures. Five minutes of inspection with testing at 1-min intervals led to significant decrement in all figures. The rate of decrement was the same for all figures. These data are consistent with a judgmental theory of geometric illusions. © 1972, The Psychonomic Society, Inc.. All rights reserved.
