Reafirmasi Keamanan Ontologis Iran dan Agresi terhadap Israel Pasca Serangan di Kedutaan Damaskus

Abstract

This research analyzes Iran's foreign policy behavior in the aftermath of Israel attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, April 2024 through an ontological security perspective. The two main aspects used are the biographical narrative of the state and the construction of state identity, using critical discourse analysis methods, discourse tracing, and interpretive approaches. The results show that Iran's response is not merely a military calculation, but an expression of the need to maintain the continuity of national identity as a revolutionary Islamic Republic. Iran frames Israel as an illegitimate Zionist regime and presents itself as the protector of the oppressed. Such aggressive actions are understood as performative efforts to maintain identity stability and political legitimacy. This article contributes to the study of international security by emphasizing the importance of identity and narrative dimensions in the formation of state foreign policy.
