Abstract

Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) is deemed to be an integral part of power system protection schemes. This work proposes a new controller technique for the enhanced control of the AVR system. Herein, the authors have employed an optimally tuned Model Predictive Controller (MPC) technique and its cost function weights have been calculated using the recent Marine Predators Algorithm. The superiority of transient performance of the controller system has been ascertained after coring it with that of the controller techniques available in the existing literature. Further, the stability analysis has been done for the controlled system to highlight the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Additionally, the robustness of the proposed algorithm has been verified after considering step disturbance in the load.
