Abstract

We are always hearing how technology is everywhere, but has it arrived and become part of the practicum and external work placements, in general, and, particularly, in the assessments? That is our key question in order to determine the presence and use of emerging technology in pre-professional practice. We therefore present bibliometric research on papers produced in International Symposiums about placements and the Scielo and Dialnet data bases over the last twenty years. Responding to some criteria, 84 studies are analysed. The results show that although studies on work placements are abundant, in this context of practical training rather than talking of “emerging technology”, we should be saying that “technology is emerging”, since that has been an increasingly used cliché over the years. We conclude with a consideration of the need and relevance of emerging resources in a formative context.
