Abstract

Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam) is a plant that can grow well in tropical regions such as Indonesia. Jackfruit seeds contain steroid/triterpenoid chemical compounds, including several types of steroids that are useful as ingredients in medicines, such as estrogen, progestin, and cardenolides. The research aims to conduct phytochemical testing and isolate steroid/triterpenoid compounds from jackfruit seeds. This research uses experimental methods, including the compound extraction process using the maceration method and the isolation of active compounds via column chromatography. Identification of pure isolates was carried out using UV spectrophotometry and IR spectrophotometry. The results of phytochemical screening showed the presence of steroid/triterpenoid compounds, glycosides, and alkaloids in the samples. The isolate has a purple color with an RF value of 0.25, and the maximum absorption peak is located at a wavelength of 208.20 nm, indicating the presence of a chromophore group. IR spectrophotometry results show the presence of OH, aliphatic -CH, CH2, CH3, C=O, C-O, and C=C. This research concludes that the isolate obtained belongs to the steroid/triterpenoid compound group.
