Abstract

Five aspects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy are reviewed in this section; 1) the basic physical and physiologic principles that produce the desired increase in tissue oxygen concentrations, 2) the physiologic effects of hyperoxia, 3) indications for the use of hyperbaric oxygen as a primary or integrative therapy, 4) the potential application of hyperbaric oxygen in specific diseases including wounds, sepsis, bone healing and osteomyelitis, athletic injuries, reperfusion disease, blood loss, central nervous systemdiseases, carbon monoxide toxicity, 5) hyperbaric chambers and operation. © 2013 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
