Abstract

This paper reports the findings of an experimental prettest-posttest control group design conducted to investigatethe role of model-eliciting activities approach, school cluster, and prior mathematics ability on student’s mathematical understandingand mathematical disposition. The study involved 219 tenth grade students from three senior high school of high, medium, and low cluster in Cimahiin West Java. The instrumen were a mathematical understandingtest, and a mathematical disposition scale. The data were analyzed by using two paths Annova, Scheffe test, and t-test. The study found that model-eliciting activitiesapproach, gave the best role compare to the rolesof conventional teaching, school cluster, and students’ prior mathematics ability on attaining and gaining student’s mathematical understandingand disposition. Moreover, there were no interaction between learning approach and school cluster, and between learning approach and prior mathematics ability on student’s mathematical understanding and there washigh association between mathematical understandingand mathematical disposition.
