Abstract

A catalogue of 83 species of chironomids collected in the Camargue is given. The following information is given for each species:- the emergence period of the adults and the methods of capturing the adults;- the relative abundance in the family or sub-family, using information obtained from the catches of imagines;- the taxonomic publications used to determine the species (adult, pupa, larva);- the world distribution;- the distribution in France: 10 species are new records for the French fauna, 8 species are new records for the Camargue;- biological observations and ecological notes: adaptations to variations in salinity, to variations in the level of dissolved oxygen, and resistance to drying.Three species have a circum-mediterranean distribution and three species have also been recorded in the Ethiopian region. © 1976 Masson.
