Abstract
The well‐known equations governing the free oscillations of an elastic medium possess a singular point at the origin of the co‐ordinate system. The obvious procedure to begin an integration of the equations at the origin is to use a power‐series expansion, and this appears to have been incorporated in some free oscillation programs. However, details have never been published and the method is presented here. A short discussion of the usefulness of the method is given based on some computations with a real earth model.
