Abstract

Control activities of dengue vector in Pirai city, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were integrated into Family Health Strategy actions since 2005, aiming at commitment and responsibility of the health sector with the enrolled population and territory, strengthening prevention and improving control indicators. This study aims to analyze the impact of this integration, in particular with Community Health Agents, main subject of actions. Through document analysis and interviews, we attempted to contextualize the political process and managerial achievements. Understanding the perceptions, meanings and challenges of this action to the knowledge and practices of agents, a focus group was conducted. Such indicators, obtained after integration, show that it has been effective. The focus group acknowledged the difficulty of the population to perceive and understand the new role assigned to the agents, identifying their concern with the possibility of interfering actions in connection with the community. Another issue is the lack of understanding and integration of environmental surveillance actions with the perspectives of health education and community mobilization. This difficulty appears to be related to the design, even medicalized and individualistic itself, the role of education and health promotion to be developed in the territory. Despite the success achieved in the integration of actions, one must understand that it is dynamic, constantly changing, and implyes constant exercise of review and dialogue on the issues involved in health daily practice.
