Decompression of radicular cyst associated with paraendodontic surgery: a case report

Abstract

Radicular cysts result from an inflammatory process associated with teeth with pulp necrosis. The initial therapy is the endodontic treatment. However, if it fails, other treatment alternatives should be considered. Among them are some types of endodontic surgery that should be indicated according to the diagnosis of the tooth involved. Another technique for treating cysts is decompression, which can be used for the reduction or complete regression of the lesion and the preservation of adjacent noble structures. This case report, with a follow-up of two years, aims to present the therapy of a radicular cyst in close association with the mandibular canal through endodontic surgery and decompression of the lesion, as an alternative method to preserve the innervation of the inferior alveolar nerve.
