Abstract

This report describes 10 species of pontoniine shrimp collected during the First International Marine Biological Workshop; the Marine Flora and Fauna of Hong Kong and southern China, 1980; and also provides further information on 4 species previously recorded from Hong Kong. Five species are new to the fauna list, increasing the number known at present to 20. All species except 4 are commensally associated with other marine invertebrates and where possible their hosts have been identified. Most of the species are of wide-spread occurrence in the Indo-West Pacific region but one is not yet known from other than Hong Kong waters. Sixteen species occur in Australian waters and 12 in the western Indian Ocean, with 7 extending to the Red Sea. Four species are free living, 3 associates of Porifera; 8 with Coelenterata, 2 with Mollusca and 2 with Echinodermata, the host of one species, Periclimenes hongkongensis, remaining uncertain.
