Abstract

Land cover classification is perhaps the most widely used application in remote sensing image analysis. In this entry, some well-known and state-of-the-art classifier algorithms were presented. Regarding recent and upcoming Earth observation missions, the availability of remote sensing data will increase and a variety of diverse data types can be expected for the future. Due to enhanced missions with increased revisit times and better spatial resolutions, the potential of the use of these approaches is increasing further and thereby remote sensing applications will become even more attractive. Thus, the classification of remote sensing data is and will continue to be an important research topic in the field of remote sensing.
