Abstract

The article's aim is to demonstrate that nietzsche's interest in buddhism was neither peripheral nor faddish. Due to his close reading of schopenhauer's works, Nietzsche was predisposed to see buddhism in light of schopenhauer's philosophy of pessimism. Hence, He considered buddhism and schopenhauer representatives of nihilism. Because nihilism is a position often attributed to nietzsche as well, An analysis of nietzsche's interest in buddhism helps us to evaluate the role nihilism played in nietzsche's thought.
