Abstract

In this work we analyze the origins of federalism in Colombia, as well as its failure during the period of the called "Boba Republic". The North American political model had a great impact on the oligarchic elites of Hispanic America. The North American political model dramatically impacted the oligarchic elites of Spanish America on the eve of independence, and as soon as they could applied it without any previous analysis about its viability. The result was a major failure and the multiplication of conflicts among regional elites, conflict s which helped the temporary Spanish regaining of this colonies.
