Abstract

FreeStyle(TM) accurately measures the concentration of glucose in a 300- nL volume of capillary blood obtained with significantly reduced pain from the forearm where the density of capillaries is much lower than in the fingertips. The readings are independent of temperature, of altitude (O2 pressure) and of hematocrit in the 0%-60% range. At their physiological levels, none of the often interfering constituents of blood affect the readings.
