Abstract

3-Methyl-6-hydroxycarbazole (I) [5257-08-9] was the most active of the 10 carbazole alkaloids tested against 8 microorganisms, causing growth inhibition at 10 μg/ml. I was most active against Microsporum gypseum and Trichophyton rubrum. The remaining compds. were active against most of the organisms at 100 μg/ml. [on SciFinder(R)]
