Abstract

The side alkyl chain structures of polyimide surfaces were analyzed using the sum-frequency generation (SFG) vibrational spectroscopy at air-polymer interface. The influence of mechanical rubbing and adsorption on the system was evaluated. The chains protrude out of the polyimide surface with a large distribution. The gauche defects and the chain alignments in terms of adsorption and rubbing was also reported.
