Abstract

The aim of this study is to propose a conceptual model for the formation of innovation strategies, while recognizing emerging strategies, in which an organization responds to spontaneous innovation opportunities. The conceptual model is analyzed empirically in 9 innovative companies in Colombia to identify the main components of the model in their innovation management processes. The results from the empirical analysis show that these companies have a significant level of development of the conceptual model's elements, highlighting the emerging actions they use as part of their strategic innovation processes. The conceptual analysis reveals that innovation strategy is researched in a deliberate way, which creates understanding gaps in the literature about emerging forms for this strategy type. It is conclude that it is necessary to further conduct in-depth research on emerging innovation strategies in order to establish a theoretical baseline that would allow improving the understanding of the formation of innovation strategies.
