Abstract

The Channel Tunnel link between Britain and the European continent is due to open in 1993. The tunnel will compete with existing air and sea services and is also expected to generate increased traffic in its own right. Delays in providing high-speed rail links have already reduced the projected user figures but even so the potential for increased incoming tourism is huge. Effective competition by the UK tourism industry is vital otherwise the UK will lose more tourists to the Continent via the tunnel than it is able to attract. © 1991.
